Black Sumac, also known as: Prairie Sumac, Texas Sumac, Lance-leaved Sumac, Tree Sumac, Limestone Sumac, Mountain Sumac, Prairie Shining Sumac
Black sumac is a thicket-forming shrub to 30 ft. in height. Pyramids of red fruit follow white blossoms. Pinnately-compound foliage becomes vivid red in fall. This deciduous shrub is frequently single-trunked and tree-shaped. Large shrub or small tree with short trunk and open, rounded crown of foliage turning flame-colored in autumn.
Birds, especially bobwhites, grouse, and pheasants, consume quantities of the fruit in winter, and deer browse the foliage. The leaves contain tannin and have been used in tanning leather.
Black Sumac Shrubs... The Shrubs are between 12" and 18" tall when shipped... And shipped Bare Root...
Shipping and planting times are winter and spring months. Please choose from following months: November thru April. But we will make exceptions with limited warranties due to heat during shipping.
And, any tree shipped during normal green and growth months ... Which is May through October is going to arrive with brown, burned leaves. They will recover and go green again, but they are going to look dead on arrival.
