Welcome to Sutton Farms!

The plants you will receive will be dug only AFTER I received your order, but by the time you get them they will have been out of the ground several days, therefore you MUST get them in the ground as soon as possible.

As a result of being in the dark box during shipping for a few days, they may show some yellowing, loss of leaves, or even look like they are dead. This is not serious ... the plant will soon put out new growth. During normal shipping times of late October thru June 1st the plants will be totally dormant, and will go back to their normal growing stage when you put them in the ground.

The plants do have certain needs to bring them out of shock. It will take several days but well worth waiting for. The following steps should promote full recovery:

  • Place the roots in water IMMEDIATELY (preferably water and Miracle Grow ... 3 tablespoons per gallon of water) while you prepare the earth.
  • Dig a hole two to three times as wide and as long as the root structure.
  • Dump one cup of whole fertilizer (whatever is normal in your planting area) in the hole, then put at least 4 inches of Miracle Grow potting mix (or a similar potting mix) over the fertilizer. Do NOT let the root system touch the fertilizer. When the roots start growing the underground fertilizer will help them more than what you apply above ground later.
  • Place your plant in the soil allowing full coverage of the root.
  • Fill the hole with the potting soil patting firmly around the plant.
  • Water well ! You MUST fill the entire hole with water ... Watching to make sure it has quit "bubbling" air from the hole. If ANY air is trapped between the soil and the root system the tree may not survive ... Therefore, flood the hole completely immediately after planting.
  • For the first few days watch your plant making sure to nourish it regularly with Miracle Grow.
  • Enjoy
NOTE:

Should you purchase a tree pay close attention to the root system. Some have horizontal as well as vertical roots. Take care not to crowd the horizontal root and give the vertical full depth.

We have no connection with "Miracle Grow Corp." We suggest it only because that is what we use, not only when growing plants, but when shipping.
