The Grey Dogwood is a multi-stemmed shrub with short, spreading branches. Grey dogwood will survive under a wide range of environmental conditions-- sun, moderate shade, wet, dry. The fall color of maroon red frames the white fruit, which the birds relish.
Grows 6 to 9 foot high and spreads 3 to 6 foot wide. Loves full to half sun ... But will also do well in shade.
Commonly grows in large, dense clones.
BUDS: Small, oblong, scales valvate.
TWIGS: Thin, light gray, glabrous; with prominent lenticels; pith of older twigs is brown.
BARK: Smooth light gray, with long vertical fissures.
HABITAT: Roadsides, open woods, river banks, edges of swamps and marshes.
