One of the most prized native trees, especially noted for its summer flowering and gorgeous fall colors. The Sourwood makes a nice small specimen tree for small spaces and looks great at the woodland edge. It is also known as the Sorrel Tree and Lily-of-the-Valley Tree.
Size: 25 to 30 feet high and 15 to 20 feet wide
Shape: Pyramidal
Flowers: White Lily-of-the-Valley like flowers in July
Fall Color: Yellow to red to purple, sometimes at the same time
Rate of Growth: Slow (14 to 15 feet over 12 to 15 years)
Other Attributes: A native.
Growing Conditions: Plant in full sun to partial shade in acid, organic, moist, well-drained soil. It is important to provide adequate irrigation during establishment period or during droughts.
It is used for crate and basket veneers, crossties, rough floors and pulpwood.
Sourwood Trees... The trees are between 12" and 24" tall when shipped... And shipped Bare Root...
Shipping and planting times are winter and spring months. Please choose from following months: November thru April. But we will make exceptions with limited warranties due to heat during shipping.
And, any tree shipped during normal green and growth months ... which is May through October is going to arrive with brown, burned leaves. They will recover and go green again, but they are going to look dead on arrival.
